Truth, Tales & Fabrications: The Quilt Art of Laura R Gadson
In Exhibition at Aaron Davis Hall/City College Center For The Arts 2025
Truth, Tales & Fabrications was a vibrant explosion of fabric and color used as a visionary tool to invigorate the senses while promoting and preserving history and culture. Ms Gadson uses the genre of quilting to create graphic and painterly pieces. A variety of textiles and techniques have been masterfully layered to create purpose filled works of art. As a present day call to action many of the quilts in this collection exhibit historical facts and stories actively being altered and erased. American story quilts have long been the silent but powerful voice of those of lesser political power. This exhibition proudly walks in that tradition while also invoking joy through boldly illustrated cultural themes.
